I thought that Safe by Susan Shaw effectively describes the hurt, pain, and withdrawl that a raped thirteen year old might go through.
The author starts the story with the main character , Tracy, walking home from school. As she walk home she is assaulted and raped and dumped by a lake almost dead. This sends her into major withdrawl to the point where she can't feel safe anywhere without her father. Every time she tries to go outside she gets scared that she will be attacked again. The purpose of writing this book is to show that rape effects everyone not just the victim.

People might consider this book edgy because of the rape. Most books do not ever mention that subject. I think they do not have rape in many books is that it would have to make books more mature so less books could be read by the younger population. So overall that is why I think that this book would be considered edgy.

The Siren Song

I read the Siren Song by Anne Ursu recently. This is the sequel to The Shadow Thieves. In the beginning of the story Zee and Charlotte are grounded big time. At school she notices that Zee is always staring at Maddy, Charlotte's best friend. She asks Zee if he likes Maddy and he answers yes. The next day Charlotte Finds out that Zee is now going out with Maddy. Charlotte gets home from that stressful day thinking nothing could go worse. She soon finds out that her parents are taking her on a historical cruise. Sounds like loads of fun, right. So some certain events, like at midnight a giant sea monster coming to eat your ship, lead to her having to get off the cruise to save the world, again. She is trying to find Poseidon, the self-centered god of the sea. With Jason, a friend she met on the boat who knows about where Poseidon is, they venture to Poseidon's yacht. They get to the boat but run into many problems along the way. Will Charlotte be able to save the world on her own? This is the story Of Zee and Charlotte. The story begins in London with Zee. Ever since Zee's grandma died all of his friends have been falling under a mysterious sickness. Zee wonders if it involves the well-dressed pale men who he notices every once and a while. Fearing for his sanity his parents let him stay in America with his cousin Charlotte. She enjoys having someone her age to hang out with besides her friend Maddy. Charlotte soon finds out that almost every girl in the ENTIRE school has a crush on Zee including her friend Maddy. Maddy a girl who is never absent even when sick wasn't at school. Maddy didn't come back for the entire week. Zee knows that it is the same mysterious sickness that he dealt with in London. He noticed a similarity in the sickness. One day while he was walking home he saw one of those pale guys taking a black thing from a kid. Zee tells Charlotte about his theory. They go visit Maddy one of many with the mysterious sickness. Charlotte brings Maddy her homework she turns on the light to find out Zee's theory was right. Those weird men were stealing shadows. On the way home they were attacked by Footmen, those weird pale guys. Their English teacher Mr. Metos saves their lives. They find out that the grandson of Posideon, Philocrenon, Is trying to create a shadow army to overthrow Hades. So Mr. Metos tells them how to get into the underworld. They get into the underworld and the story takes a twist for the worse . Will they survive? Will they save the shadows of their friends?

I would give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. It was a great story, I personally thought it was great. I would reccomend it for 5th grade through maybe 9th grade because it might be too scary for younger ages. It had a very good plot throughout the whole story. The beginning is the only dry part but otherwise it was fine.

Divorcing the Devil

This is the story of Dr. Skyler Little, a psychoanalyst. In this book Bella is back to her normal emotions, not depressed like in the second book. Bella knows she is no longer safe with Victoria, the she-vampire that is trying to kill her, is well... trying to kill her with an army of newborn vampires. This story gets more in depth with the werewolf side of the story. This happens because Charlie, Bella's dad, is forcing her to hang out with the La Push kids, or in other terms werewolves. Bella becomes better understanding to their hatred of vampire. She slowly realizes that she is in love with Jacob Black, Her long time friend who is a werewolf. Alice, Edward's sister, has a vision timing how long the newborn enemy takes to get to Forks to try and kill Bella. Will Bella live to tell the tale? Will Bella Ever confess her love for Jacob? In this story a girl named Bella is forced to go to Forks, a small and dreary town in Washington. She then falls in love with a teenager named Edward Cullen, he is the type of guy that a girl would do anything to date. The rest of his family Carlisle, the father, Esme, the mom, Emmett and Jasper, his brothers, and his two sisters Rosalie and Alice. They all are very good looking. During an incident where Bella is almost hit by a car Edward stops the car with his bare hands. Bella knows that Edward is not human. In another incident where Bella was almost mugged Edward goes and saves her. She finds out Edward is a vampire, and has been 17 for about a hundred years*, and so is his whole family. Will Bella be safe with her new love of Edward?

*Important fact for New moon
